Marking the Korean Thanksgiving Day, Oct. 4th, Rendezvous Korean Cuisine 2017 took place at Artscape Wychwood Barns on September 29th, 2017.

The theme of the event is Hangawi and it was hosted by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Toronto and Korea Foundation.

Hangawi, known as Chuseok is Korean Thanksgiving Day and it is one of the biggest and most festive holidays in Korea.

The event includes a reception of traditional Korean Hangawi dishes, a special demonstration of Korean & Korean-inspired cuisine, booths to sample Korean cuisine, and traditional Korean cultural performances.

About more than 350 guests and 100 visitors enjoyed various Korean food including Bulgogi, Kimchi, Jeon, Japchae(Stir-fried glass noodles and vegetables) and Tteok (Rich cake) as well as dessert like Sujeonggwa (Cinnamon punch) and Sikkye (Sweet rich punch).

A couple, Marcel Moldoban and Andrea Valencia, said in an interview with the Global Korean Post that they took Kimchi, Bulgogi, Japchae, Fish cake soup, Korean cracker and Sujeonggwa for their most delicious food they had tasted.

Marcel said he had tried Bulgogi at a Korean restaurant 10-15 years ago by his friend.  Since then they have cooked it at home and also, they used to visit one of Korean restaurants to have it.

Among people there were five people talking together. When the Global Korean Post asked them for interviews, they responded easily.  Later, it was found out that all 4 women of them, Anne Lee Marie haddad, Mei-Lian Lam and Morag Killackey, are working for Schools as Principals.

Jason, Morag Killackey’s husband said, “Bulgogi is tasty and it is my favorite. I tried all kinds of Kimchi, they are spicy.”

Morag said Ttokbokki (Spicy rice cakes) and Kimchi were tasty and Mei-Lian took Kimchi and Sikkye (Sweet rich punch) which she had for the first time.

Ann Lee says she likes most of Korean food but Kongnamulbap is her best favorite food which her grandmother made before.  Her husband, Sam Song says that Kimchijjigae(kimchi stew) is the most delicious food she has made.
