Toronto Paramedic Services is the largest municipal Paramedic Service in Canada. It provides 24-hour pre-hospital emergency and non-emergency care for ill or injured individuals and offers public education programs to promote rapid and appropriate use of emergency medical resources in time of need.
On September 4, Toronto Paramedic Services and City of Toronto broke ground on a new 90,000 square foot, state-of-the-art multi-function station at 300 Progress Ave. Strategically located to meet the needs of the community, Toronto Paramedic Services Multi-Function Station 02 will be vital infrastructure to ensure paramedics can respond when and where they are needed most.
The modern, purpose-built two-storey facility will house up to 40 ambulances and 20 emergency response vehicles to support the delivery of high-quality paramedic services across the city. The multi-function station will include a leading-edge logistics and equipment services area, administrative offices, and will become home to Toronto Paramedic Service’s Education and Development team.
Toronto Paramedic Services Multi-Function Station 02 received an Award of Merit from the 2021 Canadian Architect Awards for its innovative, net-zero carbon and energy design.
The facility will boast a mass-timber structure, an innovative solar wall, geothermal heating, and a photovoltaic roofscape that is anticipated to generate over 1,000,000 kilowatt-hours annually to completely offset the building’s electricity demand. Combined with an all-electrical mechanical system, triple pane glazed windows, high-thermal resistance walls and roofing, the facility will meet the City’s Net Zero Standards.
