Canadian pay tribute to our veterans

This year, we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

This bitter conflict raged for six years and saw over one million brave Canadians serve in uniform around the globe.

From November 5~11, Veterans’ Week, we honour those who have served Canada, past and present, in times of war, military conflict and peace.

Every November, the service and sacrifice of Veterans is honoured nationwide. From coast to coast to coast, Canadians have displayed a longstanding commitment to providing volunteer services that improve the well-being of Canadian Veterans and paying tribute to their sacrifices and achievements.

The Government of Canada is providing $20 million to create the new Veterans Organizations Emergency Support Fund.

This fund is designed to help veterans’ organizations keep providing services to support those affected by the crisis.

Over $17 million of the funding will go to the Royal Canadian Legion, ANAVETS, True Patriot Love, and VETS Canada.

Veterans Affairs says some 19,0000 applications for disability benefits are backlogged.

It has estimated that nearly 20% of Canada’s homeless are veterans.
