Canada’s Responsible Data Centre Development Principles were launched on September 3, 2026.
Launched on September 3, 2026, the principles establish a national framework for responsible data centre development.
On September 22, the Government of Canada announced that 19 additional companies have signed on to Canada’s Responsible Data Centre Development Principles, bringing the total number of signatories to 42 organizations across Canada’s data centre, cloud, artificial intelligence (AI) and technology ecosystem.
The principles establish five expectations for data centre development, focused on local benefits, affordability, environmental responsibility, transparency and strategic value.
The principles support the Government of Canada’s national AI strategy, AI for All, and its efforts to expand sovereign AI infrastructure and compute capacity in Canada.
