Canada provided humanitarian assistance to Nepal

Global Affairs Canada released media update for severe flash flooding along the Nepal-China border, on September 2, announced that they are aware of approximately 29 Canadians and permanent residents in Nepal and the Tibet Autonomous Region whose whereabouts and well-being have not yet been confirmed. Global Affairs Canada can confirm that one Canadian citizen previously reported missing has been located and is safe.
This number may fluctuate as new information becomes available, and as officials are able to establish contact with people in affected areas.
Authorities in both Nepal and China have confirmed that operations remain active and that significant resources continue to be dedicated to locating missing persons, despite challenging terrain, damaged infrastructure and difficult access conditions.
Efforts are also underway to support families to provide DNA samples, to assist with identification efforts, should it be needed. Information on the next steps will be provided directly to those concerned, where applicable.
A dedicated team of consular officials serve as the primary point of contact for affected families, providing updates as information becomes available, coordinating with government officials, and helping ensure families receive timely and consistent information.
Canada is sending more than 18,000 emergency relief supply items to Nepal from its emergency stockpiles managed by the Canadian Red Cross, including shelter kits and tools, hygiene items, and solar lights. Also, the government of Canada provided $5 million in humanitarian assistance funding to support emergency relief efforts in Nepal.
