The government on May 19 requested to the Japanese Foreign Ministry an immediate retraction of Japan’s unfounded territorial claim in the ministry’s diplomatic book to Korea’s easternmost island of Dokdo in the East Sea.
The Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Soma Hirohisa, minister of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul, to strongly protest Japan’s repeated territorial claims to Dokdo.
In the spokesperson’s commentary of Japan’s 2020 Diplomatic Bluebook, the Japanese ministry said, “The government of the Republic of Korea (ROK) strongly protests the Japanese government’s repeated inclusion of unjust sovereignty claims over Dokdo, which is clearly an integral part of the ROK’s territory historically, geographically and under international law, in its Diplomatic Bluebook released on May 19.”
“The ROK government makes it clear once again that the Japanese government’s unjust claims do not have any impact on the ROK’s sovereignty over Dokdo, an integral part of the territory of the Republic of Korea, and that it will respond sternly to any provocations over Dokdo.”
