President Moon Jae-in and Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 13 agreed in a phone summit to discuss the appropriate timing of the Chinese leader’s visit to Korea after the situation with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) becomes stable.
President Xi said his firm determination to visit Korea within this year has not changed.
President Moon replied by saying, “President Xi’s visit to Korea is more important than anything else in Korea-China relations.”
On the establishment of a new “fast-track procedure” to guarantee the essential activities of businesspeople from both countries, the two presidents agreed to effectively conduct bilateral cooperation in quarantine.
President Xi said, “I congratulate Korea’s COVID-19 situation, which has seen progress while being effectively controlled under the strong leadership of President Moon.” He also said that the two countries, as good neighbors, have been setting examples for international cooperation on epidemic prevention.
President Moon responded by saying, “Cooperation on a joint COVID-19 response for epidemic prevention between Korea and China has been well underway since we spoke by phone in February.”
“I hope that the application of fast-track procedures will be expanded to cover an increasing number of people and regions, thereby setting an example for the world.”
